PDG The Perfect Fit For a Successful Project!

Our projects range from one bedroom apartments to detached six or seven bedroom houses; from contemporary to traditional, period to modern. PRINCE2 (Projects In a Controlled Environment) is an internationally recognised methodology for project management. It might sound constraining when connected to a freely imaginative discipline such as design, but it complements rather than restricts and is an invaluable tool to ensure a project is delivered without problems. Our services include four distinct stages:

STAGE 1: SCOPE

During this initial stage we discuss with a client what it is that they imagine the outcome of the project will produce. This consultation is usually free (depending on extent and travel). Often during these discussions, the end result changes as we explore options and encourage input, and that is why the scope stage is so important. It is this stage where empathy and clarification, dreams and aspirations crystallise together. From this, the scope is established; the outline plan of the project. Without this, a project can easily expand or change direction, resulting in risks to the end result.  The scope also forms the first part of the project documentation.

STAGE 2: PROPOSAL

From the initial consultation, the design is developed. We still prefer to hand draw a design as this enables a more comprehensive thought process; does it work functionally as well as aesthetically? We may create a physical model with removable sections to allow a client to see into the design, to feel it, or we can provide a 3D walk through computer image. We also start to build up important documentation for the budget, timeline, potential risks and contingencies. Some of these metrics do not need to involve the client, but they are all important to the life of the project. All such documentation is open for inspection at any time and remains the property of the client. We are still open to input and this stage is still iterative.

STAGE 3: REVIEW

By now the project will be underway and regular reviews will have been incorporated into the project timeline. Essential, reviews ensure that using the project metrics we do not stray off course, either in terms of cost and scope, or that potential risks have been mitigated, or contingency measures have activated to avoid problems. Also at each stage we would ask the client to confirm that they are satisfied with progress, and that whatever happened in the previous stage is exactly as they wanted. Of course we can incorporate client input as the project progresses, and we ensure that the effect of any such changes is clearly agreed and recorded in the subsequent plan.

STAGE 4: SIGN OFF

The project is now complete; on time and on budget as per the agreed documentation.  The final review is at this stage, but because of the tight management throughout, this hand over should be a formality. Any snagging is personally monitored to ensure that the client is nothing short of delighted – our reputation depends on it. And as our testimonials show, personal endorsement is the best recommendation there is.
